Venezia (Venice) - Part 4
|
|
Berjalan-jalan di Venice rasanya memang tidak cukup masa kalau sehari. Tapi masa yang ada saya gunakan untuk merakamkan apa sahaja sampai tidak muat memori kamera kesayangan Canon EOS-350D DSLR. Gambar-gambar di bawah adalah semasa di St. Mark's Square (Piazza San Marco dalam bahasa Itali).
St. Mark's Campanile (Campanile di San Marco).
Sedikit sejarah berkenaan St. Mark's Campanile (sumber: Wikipedia):
"In July 1902, the north wall of the tower began to show signs of a dangerous crack that in the following days continued to grow. Finally, on Monday, July 14, around 9:45 am, the campanile collapsed completely, also demolishing the logetta. Remarkably, no one was killed, except for the caretaker's cat. Because of the campanile's position, the resulting damage was relatively limited. Apart from the logetta, only a corner of the Biblioteca Marciana was destroyed. The piera del bando, a large porphyry column from which laws used to be read, protected the basilica itself."
St. Mark's Clocktower (Torre dell'Orologio atau Moors' Clocktower).
Jam ini direka dan dibina oleh adik beradik Giampolo dan Giancarlo Rainieri bermula pada 1497 dan siap pada 1499. Berfungsi secara mekanikal dan sistemnya sangat kompleks sehinggakan sukar ditiru. Pada masa tersebut, ia digunakan sebagai panduan kepada pelayar-pelayar sebelum memulakan pelayaran.
Setelah jam tersebut siap dan dipasang pada menara pada 1 Februari 1499, adik beradik Giampolo dan Giancarlo Rainieri ditanya oleh pemerintah/gabenor sama ada jam yang serupa dengannya terdapat di mana-mana tempat lain di dunia. Mereka menjawab tiada. Pemerintah bertanya lagi sama ada jam tersebut boleh dibina lagi oleh mereka dan mereka menjawab ya. Maka pemerintah menjatuhkan hukuman dengan membutakan mata mereka dengan alasan tidak mahu jam serupa dengan jam tersebut dibina di mana-mana tempat lain di dunia!
St. Mark's Basilica (Basilica di San Marco a Venezia).

"The cathedral of Venice, is the most famous of the city's churches and one of the best known examples of Byzantine architecture. It lies on St. Mark's Square (in the San Marco sestiere or district) adjacent and connected to the Doge's Palace. Originally it was the 'chapel' of the Venetian rulers, and not the city's cathedral. Since 1807 it has been the seat of the Patriarch of Venice, archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Venice. For its opulent design, gilded Byzantine mosaics, and its status as a symbol of Venetian wealth and power, from the 11th century on the building was known by the nickname Chiesa d'Oro (Church of gold)."
Procuratie Vecchie.
Sedikit maklumat berkenaan The Procuratie (sumber: Wikipedia):
"The Procuratie (literally, "procuracies") are three connected buildings on St Mark's Square in Venice. They are also connected to St Mark's Clocktower. They are historic buildings over arcades, the last of them completed, to finish off the square, under Napoleon's occupation.
The oldest of the buildings is the Procuratie Vecchie on the north side of the Square, built as a two-storey structure in the twelfth century, to house the offices and apartments of the procurators. They were rebuilt after a fire in the sixteenth century to a three-storey design by Codussi which still betrays something of its Gothic roots.
The Procuratie Nuove, on the south side of the Square was begun in 1586 by Vincenzo Scamozzi in a more strictly Classical style and completed by Longhena in 1640, designed to afford more space to offices connected with the procurators.
The two buildings originally had wings on the west side of the Square, separated only by a small church. In about 1810, the wings and the church were demolished and replaced by the third building, the Napoleonic Wing of the Procuraties. It was designed by Giuseppe Maria Soli in a Neoclassical manner.
In the neoclassical interiors so out of character in Venice, were housed the Napoleonic governor after the fall of the Republic, then the Austrian governor, then they were reserved for the use of the kings of Italy and now the President of the Italian Republic receives in them if he is in Venice. The Procuratie Vecchie and the Procuratie Nuove house old, famous and expensive coffee houses, cheek-by-jowl: Gran Caffè Quadri, Caffè Florian, which opened its doors December 29, 1720, and Caffè Lavena, in the same premises since the mid-18th century; it was Richard Wagner's favorite. Above, many a Venetian family whose Ca might be a long gondola ride from the Piazza, kept a small apartment for entertaining called a ridotto, the scenes of paintings of fashionable life by Alessandro Longhi. The ridotti were extremely fashionable in Venice. As much care and taste went into the furnishings and stuccoed and painted decor of the ridotti as were expended on the palazzi of Venice themselves.
Today, the Napoleonic Wing and part of the Procuratie Nuove house the Correr Museum."

Hotel Danieli, sebuah hotel mewah (taraf 5 bintang) yang juga terdapat dalam salah satu babak dalam filem James Bond : Casino Royale, babak di mana terdapat bangunan runtuh dan Vesper (heroin) terperangkap dalam lif. Harga bilik tak payah tanya ler....
Hotel Londra Palace (taraf 4 bintang). Boleh tahan juga....

Venezia (Venice) - Part 1
|
|
Venice, Venezia dalam bahasa Itali, wujud sejak 1400 tahun. Asalnya adalah sebuah negara berkecuali, terpisah daripada Itali dan wujud sebagai "Venetian Republic". Dibina di atas pulau-pulau kecil buatan manusia berjumlah 118 pulau (dahulunya terdapat 124 pulau). Dahulunya dihubungkan dengan terusan-terusan kecil dan kemudiannya dibina jambatan menghubungkan antara satu pulau dengan pulau yang lain. Ada di antara terusan-terusan ini telah ditutup dan pulau-pulau yang ada bercantum (agaknya tu sebab dari 124 pulau jadi 118 pulau).
Tak payahlah saya nak bercerita panjang pasal Venice ni sebab banyak artikel pasalnya dalam internet. Saya cuma paparkan gambar-gambar yang saya ambil masa di sana pada 25 Oktober 2008.

A Beautiful Adriatic Coast (Koper, Slovenia)

Gambar di bawah adalah sebuah "castle" atas bukit asalnya milik bangsawan Austria. Masih terpelihara walaupun dari Perang Dunia Kedua. Kerajaan Slovenia telah mengeluarkan peruntukan dan arahan memulihara dan memelihara castle tersebut sebagai khazanah sejarah Slovenia. Kini "castle" tersebut dijadikan sebuah restoran mewah di kawasan Koper/Portoroz.

"Wine cellar" yang terletak dalam satu ruang di bawah "castle". Terdapat arak yang bermutu tinggi dan berusia sebelum Perang Dunia Kedua lagi. Bau je dah mabuk.
